KIngston Maurward
Set in the Dorset countryside, near to Dorchester, Kingston Maurward Gardens and Animal Park is one of Dorsets best kept secrets. The 35 acres of classical 18th century parkland and lawns sweep down to the lake from the Georgian House, built for George Pitt in 1720.
The
Edwardian Gardens include a croquet lawn, rode garden, herbaceous borders
and a large display of tender perennials, including the National Collection
of Penstemons and Salvias. The Elizabethan Walled Garden is laid out to
demonstrate which plants are suitable for growing in Dorset gardens. Ornamental
plants predominate and include trials of shrubs, hedgerow plants, annuals,
Dahlias and Sweet Peas.
There is also an Animal Park in the grounds which will prove popular with
children and adults alike. With animals from rabbits, goats, sheep and llamas
to see, there is sure to be plenty to see and do. With the 1 mile nature
trail, which winds around the lake, with plenty of chairs to stop and rest,
you can spend many a long hour enjoying the Dorset countryside in this splendid
setting.
