I'm looking for Eliza Bartlett, born around 1815,
daughter of Joseph and Charlotte. Joseph was a painter - he is probably the
Bartlett in "Munden & Bartlett, on the Quay" at Poole in Pigot's 1830
directory. Charlotte's maiden name may have been Bridle. Eliza Bartlett (later
Burge) was my father's great grandmother.
She moved to Somerset, married in
1843, survived her husband by 30 years and died in 1911 at the grand old age of
96.
I am trying to build up a clearer picture of this Bartlett family in
Poole and neighbourhood. According to family lore, they are supposed to have
come from Lytchett Matravers, where a) they were connected with the Rockley
family, and b) the family was wiped out from "black death".
I have not been
able to verify any of this yet, and Joseph was apparently born in Wareham. If
anyone can help I can supply more details of what I've already found out. I
have a copy of a photograph of this dignified old lady sitting outside her
cottage door, taken around 1900, and I'd love to find out more about this side

UPDATE:I am looking for any info on Thomas TRIM
and Eliza BARTLETT, who married in Poole St James area Dorset on the
25th-12-1852. He is believed to have died at sea , we have an 1871 Census Poole
St.James, there is no mention of the mother Eliza but it states that his
daughter Caroline is 18 years old and is Head of the family as her father is AT
SEA, I cannot find any deaths at sea or on land for that matter. We believe a
ship called the Caroline is connected to Thomas Trims death at sea? Thomas`s
father was Edward Trim from ? do not know his mother`s name. Eliza`s father was
John Bartlett born Beaminster approx 1790 - 1800 married to Jane ? born

crew jumped ship he stayed on the boat for one month before the captain ask him
to leave as he couldnt afford to pay him.. so he left the ship then married

I am looking for information about my
GG Grandfather, William Brown who came to Newfoundland from England. His
marriage certificate lists him as a native of "Didget, near Poole, Dorset" but
doesn't give any other information. I have learned that "Didget" is probably
Lytchett, and that in Lytchett Minster there were Brown's in abundance.
In
2000, a contact in England provided me with some Lytchett Minster births from
the 1760's to 1806, but I think that my GGGrandfather may have been born a few
years later as he was married on October 25, 1833 in Placentia Bay,
Newfoundland. There was a Richard and Mary(Slead)Brown m. Sept. 20, 1803 who
had sons: John, baptized on Dec. 25, 1804 and Richard, baptized on Dec. 25,
1806.
I am wondering if anyone can tell me if they had other children after
1806. My William m. Elizabeth Rodway and had; Marianne b. 1834, James b. 1837,
Richard b. 1840 and Stephen b. 1847. There may have also been other children.
My BROWN family names of Richard and Stephen were not very common names at
that time but there were several in Lytchett Minster which leads me to believe
that I may find my GGgrandfather's family here. I would appreciate any
