Brownsea Island is a beautiful 500 acre island, managed by the National Trust, in the middle of Poole Harbour. You can catch a ferry to the Island from Poole Quay, Bournemouth Pier or from Swanage. When you land at the Quay on the Island, you will find the Cafe Villano, the reception and a National Trust shop.
You will discover the peace, tranquility and wonderful relaxed atmosphere
of the Island once you start to explore. You can follow the nature and explorer
trails around the Island, enjoying the wonderful views of Poole Harbour,
or you can find one of the safe, quiet beaches for a quick swim or paddle.
There is a 180 acre nature reserve, managed by the Dorset Wildlife Trust with access for guided tours at fixed times. Brownsea Island is one of the few places where the red squirrel survives, so keep an eye out for them ! Not so difficult to spot are the famous Peacocks, which can often be found displaying their fine feathers on the green outside the church.
Brownsea
Island was the site of the very first Boy Scout Camp and today you will
still find Scouts using the Island for their camps. Look out for the special
memorial stone too.
NOTE
No dogs allowed on Brownsea Island, except for Guide Dogs.
Some paths are rough, but most areas of the Island are accessible for wheelchairs.
Entrance is free to National Trust Members.
